Authorized / Notified Body
The Railway Research Institute, j.s.c. (VUZ) is an Authorized person No. AO 258 and a Notified person No. 1714 . The VUZ is authorized by the Czech Office for Standards, Metrology and Testing (UNMZ) to assess product conformity as defined by the Act No. 22/1997 Coll., on technical requirements on products, and based on the government regulation No. 133/2005 Coll., on technical requirements with regard operational and technical interoperability of European Railway System. The Advice note authorizing the VUZ to perform activities according to the decision above – a notification – was sent by the UNMZ to European Commission, Member States and Secretariat of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

Within the European Union the VUZ is eligible to assess conformity of defined products with technical requirements – conformity assessment of components of interoperability and eligibility to use them, if appropriate and verification of sub-system in relation to technical specification of interoperability. The acquirement of the mentioned status is a significant step in the process of involving the Czech Republic in the European railway system.
Scope of authorization is specified for structural sub-systems of European railway system as follows:
- Rolling stock
- Infrastructure
- Control Command and Signalling
- Energy
The VUZ is publishing information on the activity of notified person in the Journal of transport issued by the Ministry of Transport of Czech Republic.
