Agreement with the Faculty of Transport

An agreement on mutual cooperation was concluded today by representatives of the Faculty of Transport of the Czech Technical University (CTU) and Výzkumný Ústav Železniční, a.s. (Railway Research Institute, or VUZ), from the České dráhy (Czech Railways) Group. This will give university students the opportunity to work on specific projects during their studies that will have a direct practical benefit for them. VUZ is the only workplace of its kind in the Czech Republic and one of the few in Europe. Manufacturers from all over the world test their rail vehicles there. “For selected CTU students this is a chance to work on same unique international projects. They will receive a contract from us, and if they do well and want to stay on with us after they finish their studies, they will become a permanent part of our team. We want to get the best ones in time,” comments VUZ director general František Bureš. “We have to know how to make the most of the research capacities of both institutions. We expect our cooperation with the Faculty of Transport to enable us to nurture and attract new specialists for specific positions of expertise in the railway research industry. We want to offer students real projects, rather than working on seminar papers that end up in a drawer.” The agreement on mutual cooperation was signed on behalf of the CTU Faculty of Transport by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Ing. Miroslav Svítek, dr.h.c. “We are delighted at the interest shown in our students, who possess considerable expertise. We want to work with VUZ on international and national research and development projects and thus enable students CTU FoT students to further their knowledge in the field of railway engineering research and development,” he added. The agreement was also welcomed by the newly-elected Dean of the CTU Faculty of Transport, Doc. Ing. Pavel Hrubeš, Ph.D., who takes up office in February 2018 and will head the faculty for the next four years: “We want to make current and future students well aware of the importance of the technical fields. I therefore believe that the link between schools, students and the business sector is a crucial and beneficial one.”
